About Blue Biome

Making ocean science understandable and engaging through interactive learning.

Blue Biome brings marine science closer to people through games, books, maps, and media.

The people behind Blue Biome

We are Cristian Muñoz Mas and Francesca Confente, the co-founders of Blue Biome. We are marine scientists with experience in research and science communication, and we contribute to the development and review of Blue Biome's scientific content.

We created Blue Biome because we believe that understanding how the ocean works is the first step toward caring for it. Our aim is to make marine science rigorous, accessible, and participatory.

Creative contributors

Meet the creative contributors who bring personal and artistic perspectives to Blue Biome and our relationship with the ocean.

Jori Neteland-Kyte combines a background in oceanography and meteorology with marine painting. Her seawater watercolours draw on scientific observation and experiences at sea.

Montse Delgado Sánchez is a self-taught painter with a lifelong connection to the sea. She works across watercolour, oil, pastel, ink, silk painting, and mixed techniques.

Isaac is passionate about gaming, 3D modelling, and graphic design. He brings creativity and an artistic perspective to Blue Biome’s technology development.

How we work

Blue Biome bridges this gap by transforming validated marine science into engaging, hands-on learning tools that remain scientifically grounded while being accessible to diverse audiences.

Each element is designed to be used independently, while together they form a coherent learning system that supports different ways of understanding complex ocean science.

How Blue Biome Is Funded

Blue Biome has been self-funded by its co-founders, Cristian Muñoz Mas and Francesca Confente. We have financed the project's development personally.

Our crowdfunding campaign is intended to help bring the physical Blue Biome board game into production. You can read more about this next step on our Support page.
