Where it lives
It is found in the tropical and subtropical waters of the Indo-West Pacific, from the Red Sea and eastern Africa to Southeast Asia and northern Australia. It lives in coastal and continental shelf waters, usually over sandy or muddy seafloors at depths ranging from shallow waters to about 170 meters. This species often moves closer to the coast at night to feed and may migrate seasonally to reproduce.
